Surfing and canoeing, two things that I love.
Plenty has been said in praise of surfing. There are books and magazines filled with photos that convey the beauty and excitement of the sport. To feel the energy - the raw power transmitted from one storm-tossed end of the planet to a distant shore in an ocean swell - and to thrill to the rhythm of an incoming set, you need only grab a board and paddle out.
One hears little about canoeing, especially in our corner of the world. It's a wonderful way to get out on the water and enjoy the great beauty that lies hidden right in front of us just a few yards from shore. Solo canoe poses physical and technical challenges that can tune your body from head to toe, and tune your mind to the subtleties of a single-bladed paddle carving through water.
OK, now you know where the domain name SurfCanoe.net came from. Groovy. So what the heck can be found here? What you'll find at the moment are stories and pictures from some paddling and hiking excursions, some family history, some software and data analysis examples from my professional work, and a few odds and ends. This website is a work in progress - hopefully the next time you check back you'll find more.
